| Vilpattu |
Established
as agame sanctuary in 1909 the biggest park
in Sri Lanka Vilpattu is now open to the public
after many years of closure due to the war
in the north. It's 30 or so fresh water lakes
are the best locations to view the wild life.

| Ritigala |
A
beautifully paved footpath, several elevated
platforms, ruins of an old hospital and remains
of a terraced pond are what is unearthed at
this 180 BC Buddhist monastery at the foothill
of 600m high Ritigala Rock. Dating back to
around 350 B.C is one of the oldest historical
places mentioned in the ancient chronicles.

Anu-radha-pura Kingdom lasted
one thousand and five hundred years from 380BC.
This city is home to many of the earliest
grandest monuments of Sri Lanka. A popular
destination of Sinhalese Buddhist's prilgimages
because of its many ancient Buddhist monuments.

Built
in the 5 century AC this magnificent complex
of geometrically laid gardens, pools, fountains
(still working today) as well as oldest surviving
murals of maidens has been a palace of theKing
Kasyapa.  |
| Dhambulla |
Dambulla
Temple is a unique complex of 5 cave image
houses containing over 150 Buddha and other
statues along with beautifully painted walls
and ceilings. The temple, constructed by a
king in appreciation for providing shelter
for him when escaping an enemy attack in the
1 century BC is now declared as a world heritage
site. Dambulla is a popular bird watching
destination the home to the Iron wood forest
and Rose Quartz Mountain.  |
