Ruhuna
National Park at Yala is Sri Lanka’s most
popular wild life safari destination. Situated about
300kM from Colombo the 1250 sq kM park is home to
leopards, crocodile, elephant, deer, sambar, bear,
wild bore, wild buffalo and peacock and may varieties
of birds including migratory birds such as flamingos.

Many
ancient ruins dotted around the present day Hambanthota
depict a significant role played by the people in
the south during early kingdoms of Sri Lanka. |
| Thissamaharama |
Magama
or the present day Thissamaharama was a capital
of Ruhuna (3 century BC to 11 century AD) since
the days of the regional king Mahanaga (3 century
BC). Many monuments built during this period are
still exist. The most prominent dagabos are Thissa,
Ytala, Manic Vehera and Sandagiri vehera dotted
around the town but within few kilometres. |
| Kataragama |
Kataragama
a popular pilgrimage destination frequented by adherents
of all religions in Sri Lanka. The main shrine devoted
to Skanda popularly described in eulogies as God
having six faces and twelve arms whose assistance
is sought for worldly gain. The history of the shrine
dates back to 2 century BC.  |
