Health
Health conditions in Sri Lanka are of high standards for a
developing country. However there are cases of tropical diseases
reported every year. Currently there are no major epidemics
threatening visitors. Nevertheless all visitors are reminded
to follow common sense precautions such as drinking of water
recommended as fit for drinking, or bottled water when travelling
around.
Common tropical diseases reported in Sri Lanka are Malaria,
Cholera and Dengue Fever. Hikers should know local Cobras
are highly poisonous.
Safety
Recent ceasefire between the Tamil Tigers and the government
has opened up many areas that have been off limit to travellers
for many years. Even during the height of the conflict there
have been no great threat to the visitors have they been on
course.
All travellers should take precautions to protect their own
belongings. |
